Tahe Marine Fit 132 Sit on Top Review by South Coast Canoes

The Fit 132 is a touring and angling sit on top kayak designed by Tahe Marine. Tahe are an Estonian based company and are well known for their extensive Sea Kayak range.
The Fit 132 SOT was designed to be a touring kayak, this means that it needs to track well, have a good forward cruising speed, be able to handle chop in coastal conditions and all this whilst giving the paddler stability and confidence on the water. The Fit 132 delivers in all of these areas.

At first glance you can see that the Fit 132 has nice defined lines and is loaded with features and storage. I took out the angling version which had the addition of flush mounted rod holders, rudder and small centre hatch.
Once afloat and cruising along with the rudder up, the 132 tracked as expected and was quicker than anticipated. The seat is comfortable and the seating position is positive. After a few paddle strokes the 132 takes off and to correct or change course a gentle edge saw the kayak respond positively with no need to use the rudder. On longer coastal distances, in a bit more chop with wind and tides, the rudder comes in to its own and made the trip a lot easier allowing me to hold course without the constant need to paddle on one side making corrections. The rudder has tip toe control footrests and plenty of adjustment which allowed me to set them up perfectly. Most 13 foot sit on kayaks in my opinion really benefit from a rudder. The bow deflects and rides over waves with ease making for drier ride.
The sport of angling.
Due to the fact that i mainly paddle sit in kayaks, the touring characteristics of the Fit 132 initially made it feel a little tippy as a fishing platform. I found that once i had thrown my legs over each side it became the stable platform I needed it to be for me fish from. It allowed me to reach in to the back to collect my rod and tackle bag and start rigging my rod. The seating position allowed me to dangle my legs for long periods of time without them going to sleep. A forward placed rod holder would have been nice but can be easily added later on. The rear storage well accommodated my gear and fish with plenty of room for more. If i was to paddle one of these all of the time i would change the rear storage net for bungee to make access slightly easier but this is just being picky.
Overall the Tahe Fit 132 Sit on Top works well as a touring kayak and as a fishing platform, it is packed full of features and represents excellent value for money.
